How long does a kitchen wrap last?

There is no single number, because a wrap's life depends on four things: the film, the preparation, the edge work and how the kitchen is used. Get those right and a wrap is built to last. KWrap gives a 2-year guarantee on its work; see kitchen wrapping at KWrap.

1. The film

Architectural interior film is made for long-term use on doors, panels and furniture. It is thicker and more conformable than the self-adhesive vinyl sold for DIY, and its adhesive is designed to bond firmly to a properly prepared surface. Cheap film is the most common reason a wrap fails early.

2. The preparation

Film only sticks as well as the surface underneath. Every surface should be cleaned and degreased, and chips and dents filled and sanded flat. Kitchen doors carry years of cooking grease even when they look clean, so this step matters more than it seems.

3. The edges

Wraps fail at their edges first. Film has to be heated and stretched round each edge and corner, then post-heated so it holds its new shape instead of trying to shrink back. Edges that are cut short or not post-heated are the ones that lift.

4. How the kitchen is used

Heat and steam shorten any wrap's life: the door beside the oven, the cupboard above the kettle, the panel next to a range cooker. Harsh cleaners and scouring do too. The care guide covers the simple habits that help.

Early signs to watch for

Most of these are small fixes if caught early, and a single door can be re-wrapped without touching the rest.

Questions

Can a wrap be removed later?

Yes. Architectural film can be removed and the surface re-wrapped in a different finish, which is one reason people choose it over paint.

Is a wrap more durable than a respray?

They wear differently. A wrap resists chipping and can be patched door by door; paint can be touched up but chips at edges. The comparison depends on the kitchen and how it is used.
